This role is to cordinate a network of community groups across Orkney and Shetland, support the community groups to produce an evidence based sustainable community transport plan fit for their individual community, work on the role out of of new electric minibuses, chargers and/or charger management systems to five communities and work with the pro

Working as part of the CES Rural Energy Hub team, and supported by CES’ Technical Officers, to deliver the following tasks:

Main Tasks

  • Maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders within each of the participating island communities.
  • To assess the current state of play with regards to community transport and community plans on each island, identifying what stage they are at and what projects or plans are currently in development.
  • To identify gaps in data relevant to understanding the key impacts to successful community transport on each island.
  • To co-produce sustainable community transport plans in collaboration with each of the local anchor organisations on the participating Orkney islands.
  • To support the collection of data locally through preparation and dissemination of surveys or other data gathering methods.
  • To effectively share relevant information and data with local anchor organisations.
  • Support the meaningful local engagement and participation to promote community transport discussions and gather input into the development of the Sustainable Community Transport Plans, ensuring the actions contained in the plans have broad community support and identify the community’s priorities.
  • To support in the management of the ‘Expert Community of Practice’ network and share experiences, learnings, successes and challenges.
  • Review the social inclusivity of project activities and identify opportunities to improve the accessibility and suitability of activities to wider demographics
  • To work with project officers working on other CES projects including the Islands Centre for Net Zero and Carbon Neutral Islands to ensure that there is a collaborative approach.
  • To undertake other duties as may be required by the organisation.

Research and develop links to regional transport networks:

  • Support ECoP (Expert Community of Practice) community members in building relationships with external stakeholders
  • Meet with external stakeholders to discuss partnership working
  • Gather data to provide an insight into bottlenecks, identify drivers for investment and identify future travel policy/priorities

Assist in local consultations and transport planning:

  • Assist the ECoP partner community organisations in hosting consultation events and surveys to identify communities’ specific travel needs and wishes including barriers to wider travel
  • Gather data on local service provision, common and important journeys and links, and barriers to sustainable transport across the project areas
  • Co-produce local sustainable community transport plans (one with each of the ECoP partner organisations)
  • Compile a partnership replicability report including baseline data and options for low carbon transport actions to be rolled out across the UK

Build capacity for action among the N76 community partners:

  • Organise and facilitate regular (monthly) project partner meetings
  • Organise and facilitate regular (monthly) 1-2-1 meetings with each member organsiation
  • Support ECoP partner groups to follow up recommendations of their local transport plans by helping with planning, funding applications and delivery

Administration

  • To keep all personal work records up to date such as annual leave requests, My Hours and Monday.com

Other Tasks

  • To prepare, deliver and facilitate presentations/open meetings/workshops and discussions when required.
  • To play a full role in the evolution and operation of the team at Community Energy Scotland, and support the success of Community Energy Scotland as a whole
  • Ongoing requirement to ensure work activity is well communicated to the wider CES team
  • Travel to meet community groups and other stakeholders within the Shetland archipelago will be required, and potentially a couple of trips to Orkney.
