We currently have General Practitioner role available in our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and Emergency department at Great Western Hospital Swindon. This role is a combined role with job role across co located urgent care and working at

senior registrar level role in Emergency department at Great Western Hospital

We are looking for salaried, newly qualified or experienced General Practitioners to join our urgent and emergency care at integrated front door to work in combined role with 50% work across both UTC and ED at GWH. Our Urgent Treatment Centre and ED is based in Swindon, providing a service to meet the needs of the local population of approximately 74,000.

The new role will offer flexibility in career development and opportunities to work in acute hospital setting with front door in co Located Urgent Care and ED service across secondary care . The Trust will support and encourage GPs who wish to develop portfolio careers.

Main duties of the role

CLINICAL

· Deliver acute and primary medical services to all patients referred as defined via the job plan



· Make professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems in form of acute emergency, life threatening, minor conditions of illness and injuries across the front door in ED, UTC perform investigations and management plans.

· Receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and assess their health and social care needs

Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness, utilizing National and local organisational guidance to support decision making

· Develop with the patient, a care plan for health including realistic goal setting

· Provide counselling and health education

· Refer patients, as appropriate, to other services, either electively or as an emergency

· Review clinical correspondence about, and results of investigations on all patients on the unit, taking appropriate and timely action

Work with and support other health professionals within the team to ensure best care for patients



· Comply with relevant practice policy / guidelines, as detailed in the MFT policy and procedure

Management and Leadership Responsibilities:

All staff in each Division are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Division. The role of GP in the ED and UTC is key in providing clinical support and is responsible for driving changes to service that will improve the patient experience.

· To support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Urgent Treatment Centre

· To contribute to the leadership and development of the Urgent Treatment service under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust’s business plans.

· The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Urgent & Emergency Care including support of the UTC Clinical Lead and IFD Clinical Lead to achieve their objectives.

· Work in partnership with colleagues in other Departments and Divisions within the Trust as necessary

· As part of the Urgent Treatment Centre Team, assist in the cost-effective utilisation of resources, including pay and non-pay items such as equipment and drugs, within budgets.

· Work within the Trust’s framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.

· Support junior colleagues and participate in departmental teaching programme

· Undertake investigations and report writing for incidents and participate in clinical risk management
