Summary
Do you have experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)?
The Role
Prime Youth Theatre are looking for an additional support assistant for our CentreStage youth theatre group.
Prime Youth Theatre’s CentreStage group is for young people with a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, and wheelchair users. Funded by Children in Need, members are currently aged 11-18yrs, and workshops take place in the Wyvern Theatre, Swindon on Saturday mornings 12:30pm-1:30pm during term time.
Your role will involve ensuring they receive the tailored assistance they need to thrive both socially and in a drama setting.
Job Responsibilities
• Assist in delivery of workshops under the direction of the group leader
• Assist the SEND participants to understand and take part in workshops
• Manage and support the behaviour of pupils with additional needs within a youth theatre setting
• Support the students with their learning and additional requirements
• Follow all Prime Theatre’s staff handbook and policies in particular Safeguarding and Health and Safety
• Represent the best interests of Prime Theatre at all times
• Communicate with parents and carers about participant’s needs and progress
• Attend a minimum of 1 termly meeting with the CentreStage leader and 1 termly meeting with the wider Youth Theatre Team
Person Specification
Essential
• Experience working with young people with SEND
• Knowledge and understanding of a range of additional needs and conditions that impact on learning, cognition, mobility and mental health
• Have a non-judgemental approach to students and their learning abilities
• Active and empathetic communication skills
• Strong organisational skills
• Creative Thinker
• Independent worker
• Commitment to inclusion and Equality and Diversity
• Hold a current DBS check or willingness to get one
Desirable
• Awareness of safeguarding practices and the importance of effective pastoral care.
• Experience of or a passion for Drama and performing
• Experience and understanding of youth voice and issues facing young people
• Current first aid certificate
Hours
12pm- 2pm (workshop time 12:30am-1:30pm)
Saturday Term-time (approximately 36 weeks/year), from September 2024
1 termly meeting with the CentreStage Leader
1 termly meeting with the wider Youth Theatre Team
