Crynodeb

Are you passionate about ensuring that our ex-British Armed Forces (Veterans) – Navy, Army and RAF servicewomen and men have excellent mental health care?

Are you driven and skilled in engaging and helping to support patients that sometimes can be difficult-to-engage, complex and risky?

Are you determined, can-do and resourceful to help support the urgent care pathway team as part of the wider NHS OP Courage services , supporting veterans and their families at times of mental health crisis?

The role of a Peer Support Worker (PSW) has been developed specifically for individuals who have lived experience of mental health difficulties and have accessed mental health services. Ideally, a PSW within Op Courage would have lived experience of accessing mental health services and awareness of military culture. You would not need to have served in the British Armed Forces directly, but we would desire you to understand the culture and be connected to the community in some way (partner of someone who has served, worked in civil service etc)

Are you team-playing, initiative-taking, persuasive and robust? This is an exciting opportunity to join OP Courage, providing mental healthcare within the NHS for our veterans and their families.

The post holder will be responsible for working with clinicians within the urgent pathway, to implement plans of care and support to those services users and their families in times of crisis. The Hub covers a defined locality (Herefordshire, Worcestershire and CWPT). The post holder will work under the supervision of the senior clinical staff and will be managed by the Team manager.

To understand, promote and educate on the Armed Forces Covenant and its role within mental health services.

Under the supervision of a qualified member of staff, the PSW will support the delivery of a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary community mental health and wellbeing service which is specifically for Veterans. Through providing progressive and recovery focussed emotional and practical support to help veterans to meet their treatment/recovery goals. Through safely sharing their own experience, PSW’s will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible, helping Veterans to feel more positively about their future. The post holder will also support the gathering of information to aid the development of and implementation of care plans.

The role of the PSW will involve promoting peer support among the veteran population, contributing to the development of veteran’s involvement within their care and recovery. The PSW will be expected to use a strengths-based approach working with everyone. The PSW will work as part of the MDT supporting an individual in their recovery.
