This is an exiting opportunity for a Pre-registration Optometrist to join the Hospital Optometry team at UHCW from July 2025!

This is a 12 month training contract offering experience in adult and paediatric refraction clinics, staff eye service, complex contact lens clinics, low vision and dispensing. There will be an opportunity to observe in Ophthalmology Consultant clinics and theatres.

This is suitable for trainees who have graduated with a degree in Optometry by June 25 or earlier.

Please note that interviews for this role are due to take place Nov - Dec 25.

The post-holder will be predominantly based at UHCW NHS Trust, but occasional travel to Rugby St Cross Hospital may be required.

We offer Pre-Reg Optometrists regular experience in Refraction, Dispensing, Low Vision, Contact Lenses, Post-operative Cataract and Paediatric clinics. We also provide support via observations in Consultant specialised clinics, Orthoptic clinics and specialised training for assessments.


Tutorials are arranged as required and attendance at Ophthalmology teaching sessions is encouraged.


A predicted BSc (Hons) degree in Optometry of 2:2 or higher and GOC student registration are essential.


Experience in optometry practice is desirable.


Please note that this post will be dependent on candidates achieving a 2:2 BSc (Hons) degree or higher in Optometry in order to register for the Pre-registration position.

To undertake core optometry services under clinical supervision. These include refraction for adults and children, specialist medical contact lens management, corneal topography, assessment of patients for (and dispensing of) low vision aids, post cataract op assessments and spectacle dispensing.
