Summary

To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), working within the Trusts policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department To be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of an RN and to be continually aware of the need for confidentiality Where appropriate, to continue to develop own capabilities in nursing related tasks in order to deliver a high standard of care To participate in ensuring effective use of resources and reduction of wastage within the departmental areas The post holder will have direct contact with patients in their capacity as HCA under the direction and supervision of a RN There will be a requirement for administrative functions within this role e.g. data input and maintaining health records Communication To work in a team with Nursing and Medical staff and other Healthcare, Allied Health Professionals and support staff. To report all incidents/accidents involving patients and staff to the RN and to assist in any enquiries. Completing required incident report/Datix To answer telephone enquiries pleasantly, in accordance with the Trusts telephone answering technique and take appropriate action To participate in the use of IT within the department Service Delivery and Improvement Participate in Improvement Huddles to identify potential improvements to service delivery People Management and Development Support trainees, apprentices and learners There is no responsibility for line management Patient Care Delivery To assist patients to carry out personal care To assist patient to mobilise where appropriate Testing specimens and recording the results Taking and recording of temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height and weight on admission to the unit, under the instruction from the RN. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the RN or Nurse in Charge Under the supervision of the RN and medical staff, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the NIC/ward manager To adhere to the policy for the control of infection To participate in the promotion of positive learning environment and to act as a role model at all times To be aware of and contribute to Clinical Governance arrangements/issues for area of work Assist with patient flow though our Outpatients Department, working with other members of the Multi-disciplinary team Learning and Development Complete mandatory training updates as required Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager Participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service To review personal practice and development through the appraisal process
