Clinical Responsibility To act as a role model of expert clinical practice in the specialty. To be an experienced skilled Interventional nurse, enthusiastic, inspirational and with transferable skills, displayed when regular undertaking clinical duties. To be responsible for the overall management and professional development of staff within specified clinical area. Provide advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients. To maintain high standards of care and be accountable for auditing those standards. To ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to a high standard and to audit documentation. Be a competent user of and participate in the on-going development of the Electronic Patient Record. The post holder will liaise closely with colleagues in managing the provision of Interventional radiology service. Provide leadership and professional development for the nursing and support workers within the clinical area as well as providing professional advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients. Provide nursing leadership for implementation and evaluation of all education, training and development of staff. Develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the clinical area. Be responsible for the interpretation of and maintaining compliance with Trust policies. Ensure that all patients are provided with a safe and high quality standard of care. Management To be responsible for the provision of high standard nursing care Monday Friday 0800-1800 and assist with the provision of nursing cover for the on-call service. Recruit and retain a workforce qualified to meet the needs of the patients in Interventional Radiology area. Manage staffing day to day to ensure effective use of resources. This includes responsibility for the duty rotas, annual and study leave, bank and agency usage. To deliver and maintain effective communication between all groups of staff both within and external to the department. To work in a collaborative approach with the Royal Marsden Radiology Lead Nurse in offering the on-call Interventional radiology nursing cover over the three trust (Chelsea and Westminster, Royal Marsden, and Royal Brompton hospitals). Develop and monitor the on-call service in partnership with the Royal Marsden Radiology Lead Nurse with regular monthly meeting and quarterly joint mortality and mobility review meetings. Ensure that all staff in the area undergo an annual appraisal and have a personal development plan (PDP). Collate all staffs PDPs in order to identify and plan the educational needs of the area. Identify and investigate any issues of conduct, discipline and performance within your team, in accordance with trust policies and procedures, in liaison with the Head of Imaging and IR Superintendent. Maintaining the area budget (pay and non pay) within the agreed budget. Report and investigate any deviation from this position (both deficits and surpluses). Also to deliver savings and efficiencies in line with the Trusts objectives. Educational Role To identify educational needs of all members of staff through regular appraisal and review, taking appropriate action in liaison with the Lead Superintendent To be responsible for the orientation and development of new staff to the area, including the allocation of a preceptor. To contribute to the training needs analysis which reflect the future needs of the service in collaboration with Radiology Consultants and Service manager To promote a learning environment and facilitate others to develop informal teaching skills. Organise and participate in educational activities (e.g. teaching programmes) within the clinical area. Professional Development To participate in own PDR, developing and actioning a Personal Development Plan (PDP) in liaison with the Service Manager. To attend appropriate educational programs to develop his/her self and team in accordance with the needs of the service. To facilitate and promote To promote role extension and development for the nursing team. Facilitate and support nursing and IR staff with their role expansion and training. To adhere at all times to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and any other NMC guidelines and regulations. To schedule investigations in liaison with radiology sister, radiographers, radiologists and clerical staff to ensure appropriate patient care and list management. To report incidents promptly and appropriately according to the Trust incident reporting policy.
