Role Objective
To build on and deliver a programme of work that enables the independent theatre sector to think and work internationally based on a model of reciprocity, exchange and skills sharing.
1. Responsibilities:
1.1 To work with the Chief Executive Officer on the development and management of the international programme of work, supported by our international associate and international projects producer.
1.2 To lead on the year-round programme of artist training, support & development for international working.
1.3 To shape and ensure the successful delivery of biennial caravan assembly
1.4 To contribute to and support the work of the theatre development team.
2. Duties:
2.1 To work with the Chief Executive Officer on the development and management of the international programme of work, supported by our international associates and international projects producer.
• Consult with individual artists, theatre companies and programmers both here and internationally on their aspirations and needs to connect globally.
• Support the management of relationships with key stakeholders i.e. Arts Council and British Council.
• Identify and develop new relationships and partners in support of the international programme.
• Maintain regular communication with the international associate and international projects producer, to ensure effective delivery of the programmes.
• Work with the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Producer to set and oversee budgets for the international programme of work
• Support the Chief Executive Officer to source and apply for additional funding to support the international aspirations and programme of work.
2.2 To lead on the year-round programme of artist training, support & development for international working.
• Develop and deliver a regular programme of advice sessions, training and online resources, including a strong presence at the Edinburgh Festival.
• Continue to build the country briefings in partnership with local, global partner organisations.
• To pick up existing and explore potential new partners for New Conversations as a model of encouraging dialogue and exchange between the UK and others.
2.3 To shape and ensure the successful delivery of the biennial caravan assembly.
• To work with the Chief Executive Officer on the future shape and delivery of an assembly of English based theatre makers and international programmers. (caravan has, since 2008, been delivered as a three day biennial assembly within the Brighton Festival and we are undertaking a review of what next.)
• Engage in national and international conversations about the future of showcasing and international touring.
• Ensure the successful delivery of assembly, including the management of the project team.
• Explore opportunities for digital delivery of elements of an assembly
• Contribute to the evaluation and reporting on the impact of the international programme to ACE.
2.4 To contribute to and support the work of the theatre development team.
• Line manage the caravan administrator, communicating plans effectively and ensuring they have the resources and support to achieve agreed objectives and tasks.
• Work closely with the house team and artist development producer to ensure projects and programmes of work are complementary and joined up.
• Ensure effective budget monitoring and provide reports as required for a range of stakeholders including trustees, funders and colleagues.
• Attend regional, national and international meetings as and when necessary.
• Ensure that the Maltings is contributing to and benefitting from best practise in the development and producing of new work by maintaining a dialogue with other national and international providers.
• Work alongside the Chief Executive Officer in the creation and delivery of new strands of international activity.
