As a Lead Test Engineer, you will provide leadership and support to multiple application specific test engineering teams. You will help ensure that the software we deliver to our front-line staff makes a real difference to their working day and contributes to DVSA’s overall objective of keeping Britain moving, safely and sustainably.
You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team using Agile delivery methodologies, building solutions focused on user needs.
Your expertise in modern test automation tools, techniques and methodologies will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the quality of our software and speed of delivery.
You will:
- Provide overall leadership for multiple Test Engineering teams supporting multiple business critical services.
- Maintain and extend existing test automation packages to ensure continued effectiveness.
- Collaborate with a range of technical and non-technical disciplines and roles to define test strategies, test plans, and test cases which align with stated requirements and goals.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen or enhance existing test automation.
- Identify opportunities for new test automation initiatives and design and execute strategies to meet this need.

Additional Information
This role can be based in Bristol, Swansea, Nottingham, Newcastle, Oldham or Birmingham or Leeds your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this. However, the role will require regular attendance at our Swansea office, where the majority of the team are based.
Government Digital and Data Profession Pay Framework
This role is part of the Government Digital and Data profession and utilises an enhanced Capability–Based Pay Framework which provides access to a Digital and Data allowance.
The base pay is £51,997. In addition to this, the role includes a Digital and Data allowance of up to £28,403.
The value of allowance awarded will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated through the selection process.
