Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated cardiac matron to join our nursing leadership team. You will be responsible for providing professional and clinical leadership to the nursing staff across the directorate, but, specifically to your designated areas of responsibility.
Our acute areas based at Hammersmith Hospital are:-
Heart Assessment Centre – is a 9 bedded area with 3 assessment trolleys.
Ward C8 – comprises of 18 mixed cardiology/care of the elderly beds. Pulmonary Hypertension patients requiring assessment and on going treatment along with heart failure patients requiring stabilisation are cared for here.
Ward A7 - incorporates a 5 bedded CCU area plus 20 cardiology beds. The ward is a fast paced area caring for Primary PCI, arrhythmia and TAVI patients for example.
Ward A9 - 20 bedded cardiothoracic surgical ward for patients with complex cardiac and thoracic needs both pre and post surgery.
We have 6 cath labs, an 8 bedded cardiac day ward, radial chairs and a new 4 bedded recovery area.
In addition we have cardiology and cardiothoracic advanced nurse practitioners, a number of specialist nurses and 3 practice educators dedicated to supporting and upskilling our team of staff.
The Directorate will offer further development that can be tailored to the successful candidate and include both leadership and clinical components.
• Carry out planned care for a group of cardiology patients without direct supervision.
• Undertake a variety of nursing procedures e.g - ECG Recording/interpretation, urinary catheterisation, NG tube insertion and care.
• Venepuncture and cannulation.
• Take appropriate action according to measurement of vital signs.
• Assist and advise unregistered staff in the delivery of patient care.
• Act as the patient’s advocate
• Standards of dress or uniform. All staff are expected to abide by the Trust’s guidance on standards of dress or uniform.
• To be aware of the research process and current trends.
• In collaboration with the ward manager audit agreed clinical guidelines of practice, policies and benchmarks within area of clinical responsibility.
