We are seeking motivated individuals to join our dynamic team of Midwifery and Medical Staff in Ormskirk Hospital Maternity Department.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for dedicated Maternity Support Workers to join our hard-working multi-disciplinary team within maternity service, in its deliverance of high quality care to our patients and their families.

The post holder will be working as part of a team and will work under the direct supervision of a midwife undertaking duties which have been delegated to them by the Midwife The post holder will always act within the limits of their competence, knowing who to ask for help and support if unsure.

The post holder will assist in providing 5 star patient care and support to antenatal/postnatal women and their babies, feeding support and advice, maintenance of essential equipment, stock levels and maintaining a comfortable environment.

The post holder must be flexible, as you will be expected to work flexible shifts, days & nights.

An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults and Children is required for this post.



Communicate effectively with individuals and their families, carers and health care practitioners using a range of techniques, keeping information confidential

Instigate emergency procedures

Participate in maintaining the general personal hygiene needs of women where

required; this includes toileting, bed bathing and oral hygiene.



Following BFI training be pro-active in supporting women to breast feed their babies

and give them the advice and assistance they require according BFI (baby friendly

initiative) and trust guidelines reporting any concerns to the Registered Midwife.



To act as a chaperone as required



Undertake household support tasks for example bed making, giving out meals, damp dusting, collecting and taking items to lab etc

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

You will be working as part of a team and will work under the direct supervision of a midwife undertaking duties which have been delegated to you by the Midwife You will always act within the limits of your competence, knowing who to ask for help and support if you are not sure.

You will work within agreed ways of working, following relevant standards, policies and protocols used in your workplace including the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social care workers in England. During your first 3 - 6 months you will be supported to achieve the Care Certificate which covers the fundamental skills needed to provide quality care.
