A System Administrator is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This role ensures that IT infrastructure runs smoothly, securely, and efficiently, supporting the organization’s operations. The System Administrator works closely with other IT staff to identify and implement improvements to the IT infrastructure and resolves issues that arise with servers, networks, and end-user devices.
Key Responsibilities:
• System Management:
• Install, configure, and maintain servers, networks, and related infrastructure.
• Manage physical and virtual servers, including operating systems, applications, and associated hardware.
• Monitor system performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
• Perform regular system backups and restore procedures.
• Network Administration:
• Maintain, upgrade, and monitor the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and other network components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, including connectivity problems, performance degradation, and security breaches.
• Implement and manage network security measures such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
• Security Management:
• Implement and maintain security protocols to safeguard the organization’s systems and data.
• Monitor system logs and activity to identify and mitigate security threats.
• Ensure compliance with security policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Support and Troubleshooting:
• Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues on servers, desktops, and other devices.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
• Software and Hardware Maintenance:
• Perform routine maintenance and updates on system software, including patches and service packs.
• Evaluate and install new software applications and hardware upgrades.
• Manage and maintain IT asset inventory, including servers, computers, and peripheral devices.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.
• Prepare reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions.
• Disaster Recovery:
• Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
• Conduct regular tests of backup and recovery systems.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Research and recommend new technologies to improve system performance and efficiency.
• Collaborate with other IT staff to develop and implement IT infrastructure projects.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, CompTIA Network+) are a plus.
• Experience:
• Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
• Experience with virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
