This HV LV Technician will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within UKPN Services - South Maintenance based in our Singlewell office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £44,489 plus van and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check

Job Purpose

The Technician's role is to ensure the delivery of all planned construction, operations, inspections, and maintenance functions on the High Speed 1 Client infrastructure. This multi-site role encompasses construction, operation, and maintenance. You will be responsible for delivering all aspects of inspections, construction, and maintenance activities.

Your role includes undertaking the construction and maintenance of the UK Power Networks Services' owned Client assets or other assets as directed by the Lead Operational Engineer. You will report to the onsite Senior Authorised Person, who is in charge of Safety and ensuring there is no disruption to the electricity supply.

While based at the site mentioned above and working on the HS1 Project, you will develop your skills and authorisations to work on any of the projects within UKPN Services.

Principal Accountabilities

- Construction and Maintenance of the UK Power Networks' owned assets ranging from 400kV to 433v & 400v.
- Assist the Operational Engineers in meeting maintenance targets on time and within budget.
- Test protection systems and devices.
- Construction and Maintenance of LV & HV switchgear, the Control and Protection Systems.
- Construction and Maintenance of specialist client equipment, including SVCs and Load Balancers.
- Test protection systems, switchgear, and devices.
- Potential further progression to AP.
- Operate and update the Asset database concerning project activities.
- Contribute to fault investigations and repairs.
- Competent in carrying out planned substation inspections and maintenance.
- Conversant with manufacturers' maintenance regimes.
- Comply with UK Power Networks Services' inspection and maintenance procedures (follow maintenance job plans).
- Use the asset management system (SAP) for recording on-site work undertaken.
- Authorised to operate on high and low voltage systems and competent to receive safety documentation.
- Competent to manage contractors.
- Competent in HV and LV fittings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A completed apprenticehship and traceable industry experience, post apprenticeship.
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical experience
  • Experience in HV & LV Operational Construction and Maintenance work planning.
  • Traceable work history.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Obtain a Client Infrastructure Security Passes.
  • Medical and Drugs and Alcohol screening
  • Full drivers licence.
  • Competent Person to receive HV & LV safety documentation.
  • Understand distribution safety rules and the competency structure around HV.
  • Operational understanding systems through the range 400kV to 433v & 400v.
  • Experience undertaking routine inspection and maintenance activities for HV & LV Assets.
  • Use the Asset Management System (SAP).
  • Confined space training.
  • PASMA certified for prefabricated scaffold erection.
  • Compliance with UK Power Networks Services O&M Procedures relating to Health, Safety, Quality and the Environment.
  • Follow the requirements detailed in Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Competent to undertake maintenance and construction activities on a range of HV, LV equipment including transmission and distribution equipment
  • A pro active approach to carrying out a range of activities including cleaning of substations and any other tasks required by the lead operational engineer.
