Summary
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in Derbyshire who are looking for a Behaviour Support Officer to join their team. The school provides education to children and young people aged 5 up to 19 years with Autism (ASC), speech and language disorders (SLCN) , moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD) and associated behavioural difficulties.
You will be responsible for providing positive behaviour support strategies throughout the school, collaborating closely with staff to proactively minimise behaviour-related incidents and reduce the use of restrictive physical interventions. They are looking for someone who can promote, lead, and coordinate all aspects of positive behaviour strategies, and to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
Due to the nature of our roles, candidates must be a UK Resident residing within the local area. Please note we cannot offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.
What skills are required?
- A relevant qualification for working in a special needs residential school, such as Level 3 Diploma in Residential Care for Children & Young People, Level 3 Teaching Assistant certification, or an equivalent qualification
- Legal right to work in the UK
- At least 2 years of experience in a school or social care setting.
- A strong commitment to best practices in education and care, with a focus on restraint reduction and ensuring a safe environment for young people.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for training, leading debriefs, and advising staff and management teams.
- Ability to listen to and engage with stakeholders
- Capable of motivating and inspiring others with a positive outlook and approach.
- Well-organised, with attention to detail and a commitment to completing tasks thoroughly.
- Effective at planning and prioritising work using initiative.
- Reliable and disciplined, with the ability to maintain energy and enthusiasm during challenging periods
