Summary


The Radiology Systems Assistant will, in accordance with the PACS/RIS Manager, provide technical support to Radiology system users throughout the Trust. The Radiology Systems Assistant will provide support to ensure the Radiology IT Systems are used effective to meet the core business needs of the Radiology department.

To work as part of the Radiology PACS Team providing technical support and maintaining the quality of highly complex data held within the systems.

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES



Communication and relationships
• Close liaison with Radiology staff to discuss current issues.
• Close liaison with external companies to communicate new and existing faults to bring them to resolution.
• Liaison with PACS/RIS Manager to ensure any calls requiring escalation are addressed promptly and effectively.
• Ensure effective communications are maintained with the various levels of staff within the Trust and with external stakeholders, suppliers and other organisations irrespective of Radiology System familiarity. Provide training to users when carrying out support to ensure familiarity with Radiology systems.
• Ensure excellent customer service skills are displayed when dealing with all stakeholders.
• Collaborative teamwork with PACS/RIS suppliers and local & national support staff for troubleshooting and incident logging.



Analysis and judgement
• Conduct thorough analysis and fault-finding of a wide range of Radiology System issues, including, but not limited to system/user errors, data errors, software problems. Ensure the appropriate involvement of other Radiology Staff and PACS/RIS Manager as necessary. Issues will require the evaluation of a number of possible solutions so the application of sound technical judgement will be essential.
• Monitoring and analysis of error logs in order to identify issues with Radiology imaging and none imaging data.
• Liaise and co-operate with any audits carried out by internal and external auditors and the implementation of any associated recommendations.
• Complete all daily housekeeping activities required.
• Run and distribute daily, weekly and monthly routine statistics as detailed in Radiology Procedures.
• Manipulation of statistical templates to perform ad hoc statistical queries in RIS system.



Planning and organisation
• Help to implement equipment and software roll-outs to ensure implementation projects are successful and delivered in a timely fashion.
• Taking direction from the PACS/RIS Manager, help to deliver and encourage appropriate use of Radiology systems.
• Working with the PACS/RIS Manager to ensure all new developments are implemented successfully.
• Support the PACS/RIS Manager with maintaining departmental records in accordance with the Trust’s policy on Records Management.
• Assist in the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date software and hardware asset register.
• Plan day-to-day tasks, ensuring sufficient capacity if planned tasks are required to change due to variable workload or interruptions.



Physical skills
• Ensuring Health and Safety at work requirements are met when there is a requirement to conduct manual lifting and handling of equipment etc.
• Ensure the accurate collation of data into trust and third-party data system.
• Be able to demonstrate advanced keyboard skills.
• Liaising with CR vendors troubleshoot and repair Radiology CR hardware under engineer instruction.



Policy & service development / implementation
• Assist the PACS/RIS Manager in development of plans, policies and work instructions to direct roll-outs of software, hardware and encourage best practice when using the Radiology systems.
• Adhere to departmental policies for the management of erroneous patient metadata and pixel data.
• Make suggestions to assist the PACS/RIS Manager in the development of staff training plans.
• Take an active roll, providing input and proposals in the development of Radiology System projects.
• Suggest improvements to daily used procedures to aid service delivery.
• To provide active input for the development and implementation of IM&T policies and procedures within Radiology.



Responsibility for Financial & Physical Resources
• Ensure that highly specialised Radiology systems and hardware are operated in a safe and proper manner in accordance with Radiology policies.
• To be aware of the need for financial control and make efficient use of resources.



Staff / HR / Leadership / Training
• Provide support to Trust users both independently and as part of the Radiology PACS team.
• Provide appropriate support to users of the radiology IT system users to improve their knowledge and understanding and share own knowledge, skills and experience with others during training sessions for staff.
• Take an active part in learning opportunities.
• Where support is required outside of the normal departmental guidelines, ensure that it is brought to the attention of the PACS/RIS Manager for proper escalation.
• Comply with all ICO policies and procedures e.g. HR, Health & Safety, Fire etc.
• Provide practical training to users in the correct use of systems and hardware.



Use and development of information systems.
• Ensure the correct use and accuracy of all information systems in Radiology.
• Ensure maintenance and management of records and their retention in accordance with the Trust’s records management policy and standards of good practice.
• Use and assist in developing existing information systems in the carrying out of day to day duties.



Research & Development
• Under the supervision of the PACS/RIS Manager participate in the testing lifecycle of new software and hardware solutions.
• Make suggestions based on experience of using information systems.
