Crynodeb

Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone? Then the Environment Agency is the organisation for you! This is an exciting opportunity to shape and influence our approach to risk management.

We are seeking two experienced risk professionals to lead the implementation of our new risk management framework and deliver a programme of activities to strengthen and embed our approach to risk management across all levels of the organisation. You will strengthen our risk management culture by working collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation, providing expert advice and enabling staff to identify, assess, mitigate and monitor risks effectively and consistently.

Responsibilities include:

•Maintain the Risk Management Framework, assuring its effectiveness and alignment with the Orange Book whilst continuing to meet the organisations requirements
•Oversee the implementation of organisation wide risk management processes and procedures to drive a consistent approach
•Lead and manage an annual programme of risk management activities and initiatives to strengthen our risk management practices and culture
•Produce regular reports to our senior leadership team, providing them with oversight of the risk landscape and information to inform effective decision making
•Build trusted relationships across the organisation by providing expert advice and constructive challenge to ensure risks are being managed and mitigated effectively
•Work collaboratively with other functions (e.g. health, safety and wellbeing, project and programme management) to align and integrate risk management processes
•Coach and nurture team members, providing them with technical direction to deliver.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team
The Risk and Assurance Team sits within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate and performs a ‘second line of defence’ role. We set out processes, standards and procedures to enable risks to be managed effectively and consistently at all levels of the organisation. We provide expert advice and develop training, resources and guidance to support staff.

This is a technical leadership role and each role will be required to line manage a small team.

Experience/skills required

You will need to be an experienced technical leader who has an extensive understanding of risk management gained in a similar role.

You will also need to have:

•a comprehensive understanding of the Orange Book and risk management principles including risk governance and assurance
•a proven track record of successfully implementing and embedding risk management initiatives through collaborative working and delivering through others across multiple teams
•excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of providing expert risk advice and engaging with senior leaders on risk management matters
•the ability to build strong, trusted relationships across all levels whilst challenging firmly and constructively
•experience of working in a complex and fast paced environment, adapting quickly to changing circumstances and managing competing priorities.

Ideally, you will also have:

•A risk management qualification or relevant professional membership (e.g IRMCert)
•Understanding of other risk-based functions e.g. project/programme management, health and safety.
