Summary

Linetop Ltd is seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our small team. There will be a probationary period of six months leading to a permanent role. There are no obstacles to progressing to a senior role for someone starting at trainee level in the range £25,000-£30,000pa. The salary for an experienced engineer will match their qualifications and relevant skills: £30,000-£40,000pa. Our company is strongly committed to personal development, and we value the contributions of our staff, which often result in salary increases.

The company works a five-day week, nominally 9 am-5 pm, with flexitime. This job is based at our offices near Abertillery but will involve some business travel for client fieldwork. We can also split this post into two part-time positions if we find suitable candidates.

We are a thriving specialist small business providing visitor-counting equipment and related services to numerous large organizations for over twenty years. Our clients typically own public land, often used for leisure activities, across the UK and occasionally abroad. Our company is at the forefront of innovation, having developed our own footfall counter products focusing on outdoor activities like walking, cycling, and driving. We also create visitor counters for public buildings like countryside visitor centres, museums, and galleries.

Regular tasks include in-house assembly work and preparing assembly jobs done by our contractors. Interested candidates will also have the opportunity of communicating with customers by phone and email, responding to their needs, downloading visitor data on to Windows PCs using our apps (for which you will be trained) and checking their visitor data.

The essential qualifications and skills requirements are as follows:
• Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel
• Good spoken and written English, numeracy and communication skills
• Dependable, trustworthy, and able to work on your own sometimes
• Reliable, self-motivated, professional, and well-presented
• Awareness of safety, risk assessments, and following established procedures.

It would be an advantage to have:
• An engineering or technical work background
• A full UK driving licence and willing to do occasional business travel nationwide
• DIY skills to install counters in footpaths, on fences or buildings, etc
• Experience in hand-soldering and assembling electronic products
• Work experience or a hobby interest in making gadgets and getting them to work.

The role offers a variety of activities with which you can engage. You will be able to learn from colleagues and make valuable contributions as part of a team. We place great importance on teamwork and believe that supporting one another has been crucial for our success. So your willingness to become an integral part of our operations, contributing your ideas and helping your colleagues or accepting their advice will be highly valued.

Some of our work is done in the outdoors, for example installing a counter on a footpath perhaps a short distance from the nearest parking. So this kind of task would suit someone who has outdoor recreation interests who would welcome the opportunity of some physical activity as part of their work.

Due to Linetop's coverage of England and Wales, some of our employees must be able to drive to client locations and occasionally stay overnight or for multiple days with larger projects. These staff must hold a clean driving licence for at least the last three years to use company vehicles. Staff are not allowed to use a personal vehicle for work purposes.

The clients you could meet while away on fieldwork include County Councils, Forestry Commission, National Trust, Woodland Trust, NRW, Natural England, English Heritage, Cadw, and similar organisations. Therefore we expect the skills below from someone a candidate who is joining us at an experienced level:
• Working alongside our clients at their locations
• Working alone too, and then following solo-working precautions
• Understanding Health & Safety and security issues generally, both for yourself and others around you
• Ability to follow instructions, to pay attention to detail and exercise care
• Work your way logically through solving problems as and when you encounter them
• Keep accurate written records of your work and equipment that you maintain.

The 2020s are a time of enormous change, not just in electric cars but also in the Internet. More and more equipment will use live communications, such as mobile phone modules, to transmit data to websites which present it to users via an online dashboard. So, this is an exciting time to be involved with technology.

You can find out more about our firm at https://www.linetop.co.uk. We are happy to answer your questions by phone at 01495 321569 or by email at jobs@linetop.co.uk.

Applications should be submitted by email to jobs@linetop.co.uk by Monday 16th Sept. Interviews will be held at our offices in the week commencing Monday 23rd Sept. Subject to satisfactory references, the successful candidate(s) could join our company as early as 1st October or when they become available.
