The Opportunity
It's an exciting time to join our newly restructured People team at Castle Point. We are on a journey to transform employee experience at Castle Point and this role is critical to ensuring the Council achieves its ambitions. This role supports the delivery of the Council's People strategies and is key in delivering people related services to customers and delivering our transactional work. A People Advisor is a specialist in supporting the delivery of employee standards, supporting managers to resolve issues across the whole employee lifecycle.
People Advisors are responsible for providing professional and customer focused resolutions to a wide range of People matters. Passionate about customer service, ensuring the Council's People processes are easy to access and navigate, so customers are able to quickly resolve their queries.
People Advisors are responsible for building effective working relationships with Managers and employees across all Council services. They are a key part of the People team and work closely with People Business Partners to support the achievement of People priorities and wider Corporate objectives.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for providing accurate high-quality advice and information on a range of People matters to managers and employees leading the resolution of employment issues, signposting to appropriate policy, procedures and guidance, based on professional expertise, skills and knowledge.
- Manage a diverse workload of people related issues, such as payroll, recruitment, training, onboarding, probation, sickness, performance improvement and others, working collaboratively with Managers and People Business Partners.
- Communicating effectively, demonstrating empathy, listening and questioning skills to a high level and ability to build rapport and trust when dealing with sensitive employee issues.
- Performing against set targets, and the desire to pro-actively and continually improve the service offered.
- Deliver training and guidance to Managers and staff on all People related matters and systems.
- Responsible for maintaining and monitoring accuracy of case records, to make necessary improvements and track progress, flagging and escalating concerns appropriately when required.
- Contribute to the analysis of trends in data requirements, to identify changes and improvements to the People service and policies/standards, including accessibility issues.
- Contribute to the continuous digital efficiency of the service, utilising systems to simply processes and maximise efficiencies.
- Ensuring that day to day enquiries and processes are delivered to high standards.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Ability to communicate effectively, demonstrating empathy, listening and questioning skills to a very high level
- Ability to build rapport and trust when dealing with sensitive employee issues
- Solution focussed with an ability to confidently manage and prioritise multiple demands, seeking continuous improvement
- Strong team working, motivation and ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues across the Council
- Good working knowledge of MS Office and the ability to use systems
- Good knowledge and understanding of relevant employment legislation and practice
- Partly CIPD qualified or equivalent, or working towards this qualification, with evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in professional area
- Commitment to flexible working including the ability to work flexibly with regards to both hours of work and location of work including office, community and remote working as required
