Iain is 35 and was diagnosed with autism (Aspergers) as a teenager. He lives with his parents, who will be the employers of a PA for him.
Iain does not have a learning disability. He is intelligent and articulate, but is not able to be in training or employment. He also has epilepsy, well controlled by medication, and type 2 diabetes.
The aim is to build a trusting relationship with Iain and to provide companionship.
Tasks would be to help him pursue his interests both at home and in the wider community.
An ideal PA would share some of his interests: social media, video games, films and TV, books and creative writing, and be prepared to talk about these topics and participate in activities related to them.
No specific qualifications are necessary, but a suitable PA would need to have some training or experience of working with adults with autism. They should have effective listening and communication skills suitable for interacting with autistic people, and ideally be of a similar age (20-40).
Iain is not interested in watching or participating in team sports, but has enjoyed swimming in the past, and enjoys watching winter sports.
He also likes watching TV programmes about food and cookery, but does not cook much himself.
He would like to earn a living by publishing his writing.
Iain is a sociable person, with a good sense of humour. He can be very honest or direct if he feels uncomfortable.
He loves and shares in the care of two family cats.
The PA will need to drive and have a clean driving licence.
Standard hourly rate : £13.15
