Crynodeb


The primary role is to be responsible for the safe and timely collection and transportation of bloods, blood products and samples to or from all specialties in the Trust and Community locations to the appropriate laboratories at the Liverpool and Alder Hey NHS Foundation Trusts.

This role will also be responsible for the safe and dignified transportation of fetal remains for communal cremation and deceased babies for postmortem.

· To respond immediately to requests for emergency blood samples to be taken to the Liverpool Women's or Alder Hey Children’s Trust and collect blood, blood products and samples as required.

· To record accurately all requests in relation to the transportation of blood, blood products and samples.

· Assist on-call haematologist if a Level 1 has been called.

· Collect, track blood, blood products.

· Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.


· Asses, prioritise and organise own workload to ensure that specimens are collected and transported in a timely manner whilst working within the community setting. Proactively respond to requests from trained and untrained staff in relation to ad hoc requests.

· Able to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, empathy, calm and professional at all times to patients, visitors and colleagues.

· Deliver, receive comprehensive handover with blood courier colleagues at shift changes.

· Reporting any issues with the transport vehicle promptly and following guidance in the event of a mechanical failure.

· To drive safely adhering to the Highway Code at all times.

· Order money from Finance weekly for the fuel for the transport vehicle.

· Completing and replenishing all paperwork ensuring the vehicle is checked and road worthy at the start of each shift.

· Provide support to other Trust transport services to cover absences to ensure all services are effectively maintained.

· Liaise with departments whilst supporting an emergency situation to prioritise work.

· Collect and track blood and blood products.

· Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.

· Provide support, from time to time, to other Trust transport services to cover absences to ensure all services are effectively maintained.
