This position entails operating compact sweepers and vehicles with a gross vehicle weight ranging from 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes, as part of a service-oriented street cleansing team responsible for tasks aligned with a grade 3 role. The primary objective is to uphold and enhance the cleanliness of the City streets.
Key duties include driving a compact sweeper, operating a refuse collection vehicle (RCV) as needed, managing waste collection and disposal at local transfer stations, and assisting with manoeuvring tasks when necessary. The role also requires flexibility to adapt to operational changes, visiting designated sites, completing assigned tasks to high standards, and reporting any proactive maintenance needs, including issues like fly-tipping.
Additional responsibilities involve maintaining accurate service-related documentation, conducting daily and weekly vehicle checks, performing pre-use inspections recorded on the digital VRC App, and ensuring thorough cleaning of the sweeper. Adherence to health and safety policies is essential, alongside maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas and reporting any machinery faults or cleaning challenges to the Team Leader.
The role emphasizes promoting equality and customer care, cooperating with customers during task execution, and participating in necessary training to comply with fleet and operator licensing requirements.
The successful candidate will be part of a service-oriented street cleansing team, responsible for tasks aligned with a grade 3 role, aimed at maintaining and enhancing the cleanliness of the City streets.
Candidates must possess a full UK driving license with at least a Category C1, while a Category C license is preferred. An up-to-date Driver CPC card is essential, along with basic literacy and numeracy skills. Desirable qualifications include experience with mechanical sweepers, local geographical knowledge, and an understanding of Health & Safety matters. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, attention to detail, and a dependable nature, along with the capability to perform manual handling tasks and a flexible approach to work.
