PHLEBOTOMIST

One Ashford Hospital, Kent has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Phlebotomist to join our friendly Outpatients (OPD) team.

Reporting to the Outpatients Manager, as a Phlebotomist you will:

o Work as part of a highly trained and experienced team, exercising initiative and prioritising workloads whilst following departmental policies and procedures.
o To work across our Outpatients and Pre Assessment departments as required.


SALARY: Up to £24,000 per annum

HOURS: 37.5 Mon to Fri. Shifts will be between 07:30 and 20:30

PHLEBOTOMIST

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Covering 2-3 clinics per day, Approx. 1 patient every half an hour, sometimes less if appropriate.
o Accommodating last minute add-on Pre Assessment and OPD blood appointments.
o Completing trackers for the bloods to be signed on collection from WHH and liaising with the laboratory staff at William Harvey Hospital.
o Using the DART system within an agreed time frame to chase results for pre-assessment, OPD, Consultants and Medical Secretaries. Act on any issues as they arise and escalate as necessary to a senior member of staff.
o All of the financial charging on Compucare for every blood test taken, including quotations for self-pay patients.
o Cross checking all of the monthly invoices received from the lab, as required, and ensuring all items that the Hospital are being charged for are accurate in conjunction with the tracker.
o Ensure processes are followed and requests are scanned to patient's records, and all documentation is completed as required.
o Point of Care testing which includes maintaining the equipment, ordering and receiving the stock.
o Ensure the relative IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate.


QUALIFICATIONS

o Minimum G.C.S.E. education or equivalent
o NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent


EXPERIENCE

o Ability to learn and develop
o Some health care experience in a hospital environment


SKILLS

o Caring, patient and customer focused
o Basic computer skills
o Sound written and verbal communication skills
o Competence in phlebotomy


DESIRABLES

o Experience in the private sector
