We are looking to recruit a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine for a 6-month fixed term contract. The successful applicant will work within the well-established MSK Physiotherapy service based at Mile End Hospital.
There will be 2 programmed activities (PAs) – 1 PA of direct clinical care and 1 PA allocated for supporting professional activities (including research, audit, admin, teaching and CPD). As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing safe and high-quality care to patients.
- To manage a clinical caseload of musculoskeletal patients referred for assessment, triage and management in the form of advice, imaging, investigations, injections and ultrasonography
- To support our ACP Physiotherapists in developing a new ultrasonography point of case service for patients with musculoskeletal pathologies
- To act as clinical supervisor for the ACP colleagues undergoing the ultrasonography course
- To be a point of contact and link with the Sports and Exercise medicine and rheumatology teams
Take a major role in the assessment and treatment of patients with the speciality who may have acute and sub-acute pathology presentations. To determine clinical diagnosis and administer the most appropriate treatment indicated.
2. Take a major role in the assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have complex and or chronic pain presentations. To determine clinical diagnosis and administer the most appropriate treatment indicated.
3. Formulate and deliver an individual treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills.
4. Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required.
5. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities, and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development in accordance with General Medical Council (GMC) and Medical Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (MFSEM) recommendations. This includes revalidation.
6. To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and that of staff for whom they are responsible.
7. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
