Temporary Hostel Night & Weekend Staff
Location: Agnew House and Barclay House, Gosport
Rate: £12.63p/hr + annual leave accrual
Working a shift on a rota covering the following days & hours:
Monday to Sunday 4.45pm to Midnight – Barclay House
Monday to Friday 4.45pm to 9.15am –Agnew House Family Centre
All Weekend – both locations
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone to join our night & weekend team who can ensure the security of the hostels by controlling access into the buildings and monitoring CCTV and managing risks to the residents.
You should have previous experience of working alone. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential as you will need to be confident working on your own with residents. You should have an understanding of homelessness issues and ideally of working with people with complex needs.
What is the role?
- To safeguard the security of the Council owned hostels by controlling access into the buildings.
- You will be responsible for monitoring and managing risks to residents. To monitor and report entries of residents & visitors, and to report all resident contract breaches.
- To conduct a security check using CCTV and in house systems to ensure that the person seeking entry is a
resident, or authorised visitor of the hostel. - To permit entry to all authorised resident(s) and authorised visitor(s).
- To decline entry to all unauthorized resident(s) and visitor(s)
- Respond to health & safety issues.
- Respond to incidents.
- To identify and report all necessary repairs to the premises, and any Council owned furnishings, fittings and white goods.
- To respond to fire alarm emergencies.
- To talk to residents & liaise with external professionals in conjunction with the duties of the post
Who is the person?
- Has experience of lone working and ability to work on own initiative.
- Has an understanding of homelessness issues
- Has experience of controlling access to a building
- Has experience of working in a hostel
- Has experience of dealing with people with complex needs in difficult situations
- Is confident and who is a strong verbal and written communicator & can use knowledge gained to fully understand customers circumstances
- Has a good level of IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office applications
- Is proactive & highly motivated with the ability to work quickly, accurately and consistently when under pressure
- Has good interpersonal and team working skills and has experience of working in a front line service
- Is a creative thinker, able to suggest innovate solutions to problems

Special Conditions:
The post holder will be required to hold a current basic DBS certificate.
Given VDU operation & CCTV monitoring candidates must have had an eye test in the past 12 months.
You will be required to work at both hostels; Agnew House Family Centre + Barclay House.
You will be required to cover shifts within the team due to absences.
