A Vacancy at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust.
This role is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established specialist CAMHS Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) service in South West London and St George’s NHS Trust. The team is a multidisciplinary team working with young people and their families across Sutton, Merton, Wandsworth, Kingston and Richmond. It provides intensive, evidence-based therapy for young people who struggle with high levels of emotion dysregulation, self-harm and other self-destructive behaviours in an outpatient setting.
This team is a small, energetic and dedicated team. It has built strong relationships with other CAMHS services across the boroughs and has close links with other DBT teams working with young people across South London.
We seek an able and committed CAMHS professional to provide high quality clinical work with young people. CAMHS services in south west London have a positive and supportive culture, and the post holder will join a vibrant group of clinicians within the Psychology and Psychotherapies group.
DBT training will be provided. All applicants must be free to attend training25th – 29th November 2024
Applicants will have:
• Experience in working with children and young people in a variety of community settings, particularly with those presenting with complex high risk, emotional dysregulation and self-harm
• Experience in working in multi-disciplinary settings and accustomed to interagency working
• Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Procedure
• Experience in delivering DBT is desirable
• Experience in working with trauma and disordered eating presentations is desirable
We welcome applications from newly qualified clinicians, and thosein the final stages of training who have not yet obtained registration. However, an applicant will only be made an offer conditional upon successful registration within a timescale that is specified.

Clinical
1. To provide specialist DBT assessment and formulation of children and young people (CYP) referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and semi-structured interviews.
2. To design and implement plans for the formal DBT treatment and/or management of a CYP’s problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.
3. To be responsible for implementing a range of interventions based upon evidence of treatment efficacy, and clinical formulation of the case.
4. To evaluate and make decisions about DBT treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic DBT models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
5. To engage in the assessment, treatment and discharge of CYP within a multi-disciplinary team approach.
6. To provide specialist DBT advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
7. To provide care-coordination and attend and contribute to Team Meetings.
8. To contribute directly and indirectly to a DBT based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all CYPs in the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
9. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual CYP and to provide advice to other professionals on DBT approaches to risk assessment and risk management.
10. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information concerning the assessment and DBT treatment plans of clients under their care, and to monitor progress during the course of treatment.
Teaching, Training, and Supervision
1. To receive DBT foundation training to enable the delivery of DBT
2. To receive regular DBT supervision from an experienced psychologist/DBT therapist and, where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues.
3. To develop specialist skills in the area of teaching, training and supervision to inform ways of working with complex and high-risk young people.
4. To contribute to the pre- and post-qualification teaching of DBT therapists, as appropriate.
5. To provide advice and consultation about DBT to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate
Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
1. To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the service’s operational policies and services to advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where DBT therapy and/or organisational matters need addressing.
Research and Service Evaluation
1. To utilise DBT theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based DBT practice in individual work and work with other team members.
2. To support appropriate DBT research and audit.
3. To support audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service, to help develop service provision.
Other
1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder’s professional and service manager(s).
2. To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in DBT across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflective DBT practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of DBT and related therapies.
3. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists and Trust policies and procedures.
4. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
