About this opportunity


This role is all about taking ownership and driving insight of Group ECL and RWA for Risk across actuals, forecasting and stress testing; it needs a deep technical understanding leading to exceptional communication of material drivers to different audiences. You will shape the strategic direction of the function, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders; leading and inspiring a large team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and insight - You will have end to end ownership of Group ECL and RWA for Risk including 2nd line assessment of provision adequacy and oversight of RWA, forecasting and stress testing; You will regularly engage explain and communicate results and drivers upwards and outwards to the RSO, CRO, CFO and other members of senior Financial Risk Committees, and the PRA as required.
  • Retail ECL and RWA actuals and forecasting - You will lead a team to shape and provide insight/explanation and communication of results, forecasts and risks to the financial position, for core Retail portfolios across models and judgements, using emulators and advanced analytics to drive insight. You will fully embed an appropriate control framework to meet 1RCSA and SoX.

  • Retail ECL and RWA stress testing - You will lead a team to deliver all stress testing results (for PRA, ICAAP and all other stress testing requirements), using judgements to mitigate risks from limitations in the model design, new emerging risks or impacts not captured in the calculation process, and explain those results to senior stakeholders and the PRA.
  • Strategic direction - You will shape the end to end strategic roadmap across calculation in FinRIQ, identifying opportunities to redesign end to end processes across technology, models, people, data and embedding control by design.
  • Influencing - You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders in order to make fast and effective decisions across stakeholders and to always operate at pace and with a sense of urgency.
  • Lead and inspire a team - You will paint a compelling picture of the vision and strategy for managing Financial Risk in FinRIQ, and build the skills of the future across the team to change at pace, through exemplary leadership skills, open and honest communication, role modelling a growth mindset, coaching the team and providing feedback at every opportunity.

What you'll need:

  • An analytical thinker with strong grasp of technical details and risk/financial modelling techniques; You have a degree in a highly numerate subject, and previous experience of model development or the development of complex analytical techniques.
  • You will show outstanding communication skills to articulate your thinking, making the complex simple, understanding stakeholder perspectives and pre-empting challenges.
  • Displaying strong leadership, you'll ensure your team are motivated, engaged, developed and appraised to achieve the high performance needed in LBG today.
