Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for a committed and passionate individual with experience in a biological laboratory environment. You will be part of a wider team of laboratory and technical staff who have specific responsibility for the running of the university laboratory and specialist university facilities. This role will be focused in forensic aspects of laboratory work and our crime scene house. You will also be supporting science-based laboratory sessions for the school of education.
You will have excellent communication and teamworking skills as well as being able to work independently and able to take responsibility for the successful running of laboratories.
What you’d be doing:
• Preparation of forensic and science-based laboratory sessions for students, including the preparation of reagents.
• Assisting teaching staff in the successful running of laboratory sessions.
• Ordering consumables, stock taking and arranging for servicing of laboratory equipment.
• Maintaining the cleanliness of the laboratories and crime scene house.
• Ensuring that Health and Safety requirements are adhered to.
• Assisting students in the correct use of equipment and consumables when undertaking independent study.
You’ll need to enjoy:
• Working as part of a small team: we are a close and friendly team who regularly mutually support each other.
• Developing your own skills and knowledge: on a number of levels, both in the forensic programme and also with other laboratory staff on other programmes.
• Collaborating with others: working with industry suppliers, partners, staff and students.
• Engaging with technology: we have some of the most up-to-date equipment in our laboratories.
• Forensic Science and Investigation: you can see how the various processes fit in with gathering evidence and investigating scenarios.
• Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.
Where you’ll work:
In this role, you’ll be based in the technical staff professional services team within the School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Sciences, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth. You will be based closed to the laboratory space and work within the small and friendly Forensic team as well as supporting other teams within the university.
For this role, you will be required to work on site.
