The adult haemophilia and benign haematology service at Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre has expanded in recent years and is the designated Haemophilia, TTP and ITP Regional Centre and/or Comprehensive Care Centre for bleeding disorders in the Bristol and South West Region.

The role of the support worker is to help provide a holistic and integrated service by offering support for all patients and their families affected by haemophilia and benign bleeding disorders and registered at Bristol Haemophilia Centre. This support is either from diagnosis, transfer from the paediatric service, or moving into area and is through to discharge, relocation or end of life.

The support worker will work closely with all MDT members locally and regionally
• Communicate effectively with all patients and their families from young adults to end of life.
• Be an active and vocal member of the MDT
• Participate in MDT discussions using independent knowledge gained from meetings with patients
• Answer, triage and log incoming calls and email enquiries from patients and professionals using good communication skills. Refer any clinical decisions to the team for assessment and review.
• Provide telephone advice and refer on or sign post to other sources of support.
• Communicate and signpost to appropriate holistic needs-related information.
• Provide supervision to less experienced staff and support them in developing necessary skills
• Support education of staff in issues relevant to these patients health promotion needs
• Take an active part in the induction and development of new employees. Providing relevant information with regards to the role itself and its interactions throughout the Trust and outside agencies.
