If you’re looking for a way to work at a different pace, develop new skills and put your transfusion experience and knowledge to wider use to the benefit of many of laboratories at once, then this may be the job for you.
UK NEQAS Blood Transfusion and Laboratory Practice (BTLP) consists of six people who work closely, within a larger unit of approximately 30, which incorporates UK NEQAS Haematology.
We regularly participate at and attend various transfusion conferences to keep abreast of developments within the field, you will be given opportunities to participate in this.
We are based in a bespoke unit designed and built specifically for our use in the Croxley Business Park in Watford which has regular lunchtime activities, an on-site gym and childcare facilities, free parking and a free shuttle bus from the local stations.
The hours for this post are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30, however, part-time working of at least 30 hours per week would be considered.
You will need to have practical experience in one or more manual blood group serology systems, and knowledge of various aspects of laboratory transfusion including trouble shooting. Laboratory work is phasic and depends on the needs of the service from day to day; approximately half your time will be spent in the laboratory.
The post also involves office work, including data entry, document review and data analysis, and bottling and packing of EQA materials. This post will involve liaising with participants to answer a range of questions about performing EQA testing, training will be provided in all aspects of EQA to enable this.
UK NEQAS BTLP is a small team, and all members are expected to contribute to planning, laboratory work, and troubleshooting. The post requires an ability to adapt to changes at short notice and to work closely within a team to find solutions to problems in a collaborative way to meet deadlines.
With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us.
We are building on the success of our award-winning virtual hospital and re-imaging models of care, working ever more closely with partners and making the most of advances in digital healthcare.
