The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is delighted to be able to offer a Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship in two fields of nursing namely Adult and Child and Young persons.

This opportunity is in collaboration with the Open University. Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to become caring, compassionate professionals who uphold the values of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards of education.

Through undertaking a variety of clinical placements, combined with a diverse academic programme, our apprentice nurses will deliver skilled, evidence-based care in partnership with patients, families and communities.

Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships will be available across our Acute Trust, starting at the beginning of February 2025. The duration of the course is 3 years and is a balance of theory and practice, delivered through a combination of practice-based and distance learning modules.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice will become a Registered Nurse, accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Code (NMC). They will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a Registered Nurse.

A substantive Registered Nurse post within our Acute trust will be offered upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme.

Key Areas/Tasks
• Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a registered nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence
• Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHSValues
• Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual
• Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent onsetting
• Work with their assessor and supervisor/s to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placements and through attending the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship programme
• Provide feedback to assist in the evaluation of the Registered Nurse DegreeApprenticeshipprogramme
• Develop by the end of the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individual’s defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Registered Nurse role, accessing clinical and care advice whenneeded

Please ensure you have this in place at the time of application as we will be unable to progress your application if you cannot supply this evidence.

The application process has the following components:
1. Submit an application for this position via TRAC jobs
2. If your Trust application is shortlisted, you will then be invited to apply to the Open University for a place on their Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship programme. This will involve the completion of a skill scan and application. You will also be required to supply copies of certificates to the Open University during this stage.
3. If accepted by the Open University, you will then be invited to attend a joint interview with the Isle of Wight Trust and Open University
