As a Pharmacy Support Worker you will be working in both inpatient and outpatient dispensaries and have responsibilities for providing a friendly and efficient service to patients and Trust colleagues. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly to support our busy Pharmacy Team.



As a Pharmacy Support Worker you will be working in both inpatient and outpatient dispensaries and have responsibilities for providing a friendly and efficient service to patients and Trust colleagues. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly to support our busy Pharmacy Team.

The role is patient facing at times involving welcoming patients, providing information, receiving prescriptions, and signposting patients to other parts of the hospital.

The position also involves creating prescription requests via phone or computer systems, the dispatching of medication and general support to the wider pharmacy team.

Regardless of previous experience, a fully structured training programme I provided and supported by a mentor within the team.

Dependent on progress within the first year, suitable Support Workers will be fully supported in gaining an NVQ2 qualification to become a Dispenser and progressing their career within the Christie Pharmacy.

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust manages the Christie Hospital which is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe. The Christie treats 40,000 patients per year, delivering 30,000 chemotherapy treatments and was rated as ‘excellent’ by the CQC in 2018.

The Christie Pharmacy Ltd (TCP), created December 2017, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trust and provides pharmacy services to outpatients, inpatients and over fifteen peripheral clinics.

Ensure excellent patient care and customer service is provided at all times.

Ensure waiting times for patients are kept within agreed Key Performance Indicators

Communicate with the Christie Trust teams in a positive and professional manner

Maintain confidentiality of patients and any other relevant information according to the Data Protection Act.

Work as a team player with all colleagues within the pharmacy. Share your knowledge and skills, be flexible and willing to help your colleagues

Take personal responsibility to understand and support pharmacy line managers in the achievement of targets

Take personal responsibility to complete all required training and development

Ensure open lines of communication with your line managers, superintendent and other colleagues within the Trust

Take personal responsibility to understand the Trust and TCP policies

Assist with the training of other colleagues within the team.

Take responsibility to ensure the area you are working in is safe

Patient facing role and interaction with patients both face to face and via the telephone

Assist in the dispatch of patient medication

Liaise with Trust colleagues to ensure patients receive medication in the hospital within a timely manner

Answer phones and assist with patient and Trust colleague queries

Photocopying and basic filing

Assist the wider team with following Model Day

As the company develops you may be required to undertake training in order to upskill
