We are looking for a dynamic, organised and pro-active person to take a key role within the Hepatology, Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Service. The successful applicant will work with the inpatient service and will be responsible for the ordering, chasing and communication of test results in order to help provide a seamless service. Additional tasks such as phlebotomy and cannulation can be incorporated following training.
The clinician’s assistant works closely with the ward doctors and nurses and experience of working in a clinical environment, along with knowledge and experience in one or more clinical systems within Cerner is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and the willingness to learn is essential. A familiarity with NHS practices and procedures is also required. This role involves close liaison with medical and nursing staff and various hospital departments.

JOB SUMMARY
You will take responsibility for the ordering, chasing and communication of test results in order to help provide a seamless service in the area. This will involve close liaison with medical and nursing staff and various hospital departments. You will work principally on 10 North but will also liaise with staff in PITU and be involved in the care of hepatology and liver transplant inpatients on other wards.
You will take responsibility for the outstanding jobs list, using your own judgement and initiative to prioritise and ensure completion of the most important jobs. This is a key role of this post which will require judgment and knowledge of medical processes. You will be supported by the FY1 /2 doctors, specialty registrars and consultant(s) of the week.

Clinical Tests and Investigations
• To be responsible for the ordering, chasing and communication of results from all investigations as requested by the FY1 and FY2 doctors, ST doctors, consultants and senior nurses.
• Print relevant test and investigation forms for the medical staff to sign.
• Inform clinical staff of the results of all investigations. Make necessary efforts to obtain these results and inform clinical staff where delays in obtaining results are likely to occur.
• Assist in design of systems to improve processes for obtaining investigations and results, based on your experience in post.
• Ensure all X-rays that need reviewing in the MDTM are e-mailed to the consultant radiologist prior to the meeting.
• Obtain pathology results from PAS and X-ray reports from PACS. Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of how to access results of tests and investigations and to communicate these to clinicians in a clear and timely fashion whilst at all times work within the agreed protocol for ordering tests and investigations and obtaining and communicating results
1. GeneralResponsibilities
• At all times work collaboratively with the X-ray Department, Health Records
Department and all other departments involved in providing investigations and with the medical secretaries.
• To safeguard at all times, confidentiality of information relating to patients and staff in accordance to trust policy.
• Work in collaboration with patient advocate and liaison service (PALS).
• To be familiar with and have an understanding of the Trust’s complaint procedure.
• To support and undertake any projects/audits initiated by the Trust or Unit.
• To demonstrate an understanding of and adhere to the trust’s child protection policies
• To avoid behaviour which discriminates against service users and your fellow employees / potential employees on the grounds of sex, sexuality, marital status, race, age, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or disability.
• Be aware of the responsibilities placed upon you under the Health & Safety at work act (1974), and to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, service users and visitors.
• As an employee of the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust you will be expected to practice at all times in accordance with the infection control standards specified in trust policies and procedures and the Health Act (2006) Code of Practice for the prevention and control of health care associated infections.
• Any other duties commensurate with the grading of your post.
1. Training in clinical skills
• Undertake training to enable you to order investigations.
• Identify, in liaison with medical and nursing staff, other clinical skills which would be most useful to the team. Receive training in these skills in order to be able to perform them as required.

This vacancy has been advertised in accordance with the new NHS pay rate which will take effect from autumn 2024. Please note if your employment starts before the 24/25 pay scales are implemented you will be paid under the 23/24 pay scales and any backpay will be adjusted accordingly.
