Firrhill High School serves the area of South West Edinburgh. In partnership with our five associated primary schools Bonaly, Colinton, Pentland, Longstone and Oxgangs, we strive to “Provide learning opportunities of the highest quality.”Our school values are founded on respect for self and others, tolerance and support.
We are one of the largest schools in Edinburgh with a roll of 1300 pupils and 130 staff. This provides us with the opportunity to provide a wide range of curricular, interdisciplinary and extracurricular activities that meet the needs of all of our pupils. We also provide opportunities for personal achievement and support pupils to develop skills for learning, work and life.
We are looking to recruit teachers to join our dedicated staff who will be ambitious for all our pupils and are committed to supporting our young people to develop to their fullest potential.
All staff benefit from a well-structured and responsive Professional Learning programme where staff are encouraged to both develop their own practice and to actively share their expertise with colleagues. We place a particular emphasis on developing leadership capacity at all levels. Firrhill is a Gold Rights Respecting School and we place children’s rights at the centre of our practice. This contributes significantly to our school ethos of inclusion, diversity, tolerance and friendship where excellence for all and excellence by all is our constant ambition.
The Modern Languages faculty has a long-established record of academic success in the delivery of our current core languages of French and German. Ever keen to expand the faculty further and to increase the numbers of pupils continuing with a foreign language into and through the senior phase we are seeking a colleague who can bring new and exciting approaches to our delivery of languages and who can contribute to the growth and establishment of Spanish as a third foreign language available to our pupils.
The work of the school is supported by an active Parent Council and Parent Teachers Association.
Further information on the school can be found at www.firrhillhigh.org
