Summary
This role will be working in our page production team, creating advertisements and digital assets for use in our printed publications as well as our very popular news websites.
This role is ideally suited to someone looking to obtain a good grounding in numerous digital skills, with the eventual aim of being able to focus in an area that best matches their skills.
Part of the role will involve creating artwork for advertisements used in print and online – these may be PDFs, GIFs, animations or even video clips - so familiarity with Adobe packages such as Indesign and Photoshop is essential. Other aspects of the job may include overseeing the compilation and distribution of our subscriber newsletters so an understanding of GDPR and database management is required. There could also be opportunities to work alongside the editorial team, filming and editing video news packages. The successful candidate will also be involved in creating branding for our own events, publications and products.
Future prospects: The previous incumbent came to us as a Kick Start trainee and was offered a full-time permanent role at the end of their training. They have acquired skills in a wide range of media disciplines which have allowed them to move onto the next phase in their working life.
Qualifications: – the job requires a reasonable standard of English but creativity is equally as important.
Working week: 34 hours per week - Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm; Friday 9- 12.30pm.
Staff benefits: Pension scheme. Staff parking
Delivery to be completed on site and off the job training either at Barnsley College or your place of work. Student to complete a Content Creator Level 3 Apprenticeship.
About the employer: Barnsley Chronicle is a trusted publisher, regulated by The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) the independent regulator for the UK’s newspaper and magazine industry. We've been publishing the Barnsley Chronicle every week since 1858. It is the largest-circulating weekly newspaper in Yorkshire and remains one of the biggest-selling in the UK – and we are also proud to be one of the last remaining broadsheet publications. We are Barnsley-born and bred so no-one ‘gets’ the area quite like we do.
