Ellis Ward is an acute admissions ward for patients requiring assessment and/or treatment for with a variety of complex needs including psychosis, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, often posing a risk to themselves.
We are currently an 18 bedded mixed ward. The service is open to referrals and admissions 24hours a day 365 days a year.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 nurse to join our well established nursing team.
You will have a role in working collaboratively with service users and families and enhancing your skills within the acute care setting.
We are a team of dedicated mental health professionals compromised of Mental Health Nurses, Health Care Assistants, an Occupational Therapist and an Activity Co-ordinator as well as Psychiatrists.
The team has an amazing culture of supporting new and existing staff, seeking to establish in them a solid foundation of knowledge of the treatment and management of acute mental health illness; as well as an understanding of what is required to fulfil this role safely.

If you are successful in your application you will be working alongside our MDT, formulating treatment plans, as well as conducting daily risk and mental state assessments of patients with a variety of different mental health diagnoses.
You will be taking the lead on admissions and discharges of patients liaising with community mental heath services, families and carers, and other third parties.

About our locations:
Tolworth Hospital, Surbiton
To create the very best environment to care for our patients, this site’s layout will be transformed in 2026 to add a number of wards to the existing three. Tolworth has a canteen and is near shops, the A3, Tolworth station, and is a bus ride from Surbiton station, with fast connections to Clapham Junction and London Waterloo.
The Deputy Nursing Team Leader/Clinical Charge Nurse/Community
Psychiatric Nurse/Practice Development Nurse role is suitable for
Registered Nurses who have successfully completed preceptorship and have registered as an approved NMC mentor.
The post holder will deliver, or advise on the delivery of, high quality safe
nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinical
excellence which comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct.
As a Deputy Nursing Team Leader/Clinical Charge Nurse/Community
Psychiatric Nurse/Practice Development Nurse you will promote and
develop clinical leadership and clinical practice and be a positive role model to junior members of the team through the practice of evidence-based care. You will be expected to support professional development through clinical appraisal and supervision and contribute to the ongoing educational programme for staff, fostering a positive learning environment. Your professional and personal development will include further postgraduate study and you will be encouraged and supported by your line manager to undertake Master’s programmes.
As a senior nurse working within the South London Mental Health and
Community Partnership you are required to encourage and foster collaborative and cross organisational working.
