Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine based in the Laboratory Medicine Department, Division of Diagnostics and Therapies at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS FT. This post is open to those with training in Chemical Pathology, both with and without formal certification in Metabolic Medicine.
You will join a clinical team of four medically qualified and two clinical scientist consultant clinical biochemists. The post is based primarily at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the direct clinical care of patients with Lipid Disorders, and be able to contribute to the provision of the specialist lipidology services provided by the Department. This includes contribution to the ongoing clinical trial work, both in the studies for which we already have participants, recruiting to trials we are already involved with and securing future clinical trial work. They will also have experience and skills required to lead a tertiary centre adult hypertension clinic.
Our Clinical Biochemistry service has a strong tradition of clinically focussed leadership of the entire laboratory team. As a clinician practising from a laboratory base, the appointee will be required to contribute to service development as well as working at the clinical interface.
The Department is accredited for training and has specialist registrars as well as trainee clinical scientists. The postholder will be encouraged become involved training these colleagues and in teaching medical students.
