We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to fulfil the role of a Genetic Technologist. This is a permanent position based at the North West Genomics Laboratory Hub (NWGLH)- Liverpool site, Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The NWGLH is one of 7 GLHs that provides a national genomic medicine service. It is a highly regarded, UKAS accredited, NHS clinical service provider of Genomics to a population of 7.2 million people in the North west of England, as well as a wide range of national and international specialist referrals. The NWGLH is currently undergoing a transformational change program to support the national genomics service organisation.

Full training will be provided, and the successful candidate will be expected to work towards Professional Standards Authority (PSA) Accredited Voluntary Registration via the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS). You should have good communication skills, be able to work well in a team, remain calm under pressure, and be able to prioritise workload. The work requires attention to detail and good organisational / multi-tasking skills. The post will involve working within a technical team carrying out laboratory processes as well as some administrative work. A flexible attitude is essential, as is the ability to work to tight deadlines.

Occasional Saturday and Bank Holiday working.

To carry out technical, analytical and administrative tasks of a section or subsection of the laboratory.

To perform specialist genetic analysis on patient samples referred for a wide range of genetic disorders as determined by the laboratory rotation system.

To work independently and accurately, following detailed instructions and departmental procedures and codes of conduct.

To communicate and work effectively as a team to identify and resolve technical difficulties.

To be responsible for organisation of own workload, including recognising and managing urgent work.

To have good attention to detail. Some essential tasks are repetitive and require specific unbroken work periods.

To be involved in the manipulation of fine tools and materials, which require a high degree of hand eye co-ordination and manual dexterity. This includes the operation of specialised laboratory equipment.

Training of less experienced staff where applicable.
