University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

We are looking for a full time consultant in paediatric rheumatology to join our team in Southampton.

Our team consists of two paediatric rheumatology consultants, 3 nurse specialists, a grid trainee, two physiotherapists and a psychologist.

We are a happy and functional team; we are all enthusiastic and collaborative with a strong sense of collective responsibility and desire to keep improving our service and deliver an excellent service to children with chronic rheumatological conditions both locally and across the region.

We have won two national awards:
• NRAS best paediatric rheumatology service in 20Well Child best hospital team in 2012

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Alongside the rest of the team you will be doing outpatient clinics both in UHS and in our 11 partner hospitals across the region. Outreach work constitutes around 50% of the total workload.

You will also look after in patients and day cases and do GA injection lists.

You will join in with teaching and training of the wider MDT, paediatric trainees, and colleagues across the region, and will help with ongoing research trials at UHS.

You will be providing non-residential out of hours services to cover paediatric rheumatology across the UHS and partner hospitals.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an enthusiastic and personable colleague who can fit in well with our team and work collaboratively with both the paediatric rheumatology MDT and also colleagues in other specialties in UHS and shared care partners in the regional network.

Willingness and ability to travel to outreach clinics every week is also essential.
