Children's Outpatient team are looking for a Paediatric Phlebotomist/ Healthcare Assistant. The post holder will work with the medical and nursing teams in children's outpatient department to provide support for paediatric clinics and independently run paediatric phlebotomy clinics.
1 x full time position
The post holder will be required to undertake phlebotomy duties in the paediatric department and to work in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures. They will also be expected to work with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe care for children attending children's outpatient department.
An essential requirement of the post is an ability to work as part of a team and have a children and family friendly approach to care.
• In co-operation with the medical staff, ensure patients are receiving high quality, appropriate paediatric phlebotomy care.
• To work with the multidisciplinary team to support paediatric clinics in the department.
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients before, during and after the venepuncture.
• Ensure safe collection of blood samples according to agreed procedures
• Ensure appropriate and accurate labelling and dispatch specimens to laboratories.
• Ensure that appropriate requisitions are competed accurately and that specimens are carefully packaged for transport to pathology department.
• To seek immediate assistance from medical and nursing staff should the patient's condition deteriorate during phlebotomy.
• To maintain daily record of workload plan and to retrieve information from the computerised health systems as appropriate.
• To ensure that the patient is regarded with dignity and respect by upholding the Philosophy of Care and adhering to Policies and Procedures as lay down by the unit and the Trust.
