You will support the Acute Oncology Team (AOT) to deliver the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) for relevant cancer patients in line with national guidance and the requirements of the Quality Assurance Process.
You will work in partnership with other key staff within the AOS including Oncologists, Haematologists, and Specialist Palliative Care Teams, all cancer Multidisciplinary Teams, Emergency Department and Emergency Assessment Unit.
The team also need to link with primary and tertiary care colleagues and the wider hospital nursing and medical teams.
You will help to plan, deliver and evaluate specialist programmes of education and training to all grades of staff throughout the Trust, primary care settings and to patients as appropriate.
You will support the Macmillan Acute Oncology Nurses to develop and evaluate the provision of clinical audit programs and clinical guidelines that ensure the effectiveness of the AOS using appropriate research.
You will be part of a small dynamic team providing a 7 day service to patients admitted to Salford Royal Hospital sites with acute oncology presentations.
Personal & Professional Development is one of the foundation stones of the service and actively encouraged.
A band 6 developmental role would be considered with a view to re-assess after 12 months with the intention of progression to a band 7.
Work autonomously and as part of the team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidenced-based nursing care which may include outreach into the community as required.
Act as key worker and ensure appropriate investigation of patients who might benefit from treatment for cancers of an unknown primary (CUP) or metastases of unknown origin (MUO), targeted investigations, and rapid triage of patients into oncology and / or specialist palliative care.

Support the Macmillan Acute Oncology Nurses (MAONs) to develop and evaluate the provision of clinical audit programs and clinical guidelines that ensure the effectiveness of the AOS using appropriate research.
