MHC UK Limited is looking for Lay/Associate Hospital Managers (LHM) to add to its existing teams. The Lay Hospital Manager is an important role which serves to provide an impartial viewpoint for those patients detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007

The role involves reviewing written clinical reports and attending a panel of three members to hear evidence from the patient, doctor, social workers and others professionals. The role does not attract employed status or a salary. However you would receive £75 per hearing plus reasonable mileage expenses incurred. The hearings will take place at our Newton House Independent Hospital in BlackpooL.

Key Responsibilities

- To hear appeals from patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 in MHC Independent Hospitals.

- To hear reviews of patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, whose detention is due for renewal under the provisions of the Act and to hear reviews of service users who’s Community Treatment Order are due for extension or have been revoked under the provisions of the Act.

- To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 placed upon the Hospital Managers are carried out in accordance with the Act, Code of Practice for England and the Care Programme Approach.

The ideal candidate will be able to work within a flexible schedule sometimes at short notice and have knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and have some awareness of current Learning Disability and Mental Health policy.General knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS 2009) will also be very useful but not essential.Successful candidates will be required to attend a Mental Health Care UK Limited company Induction and specialised training as appropriate to the role.
