To provide cashiering services to the Trust, with the aim of:
• Providing an efficient, professional and customer focused cashier service to staff, clients and visitors in accordance with the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions, local policies and procedures, insurance and security requirements and to the satisfaction of internal and external audit
• Recording financial transactions relating to the cashier offices accurately and ensuring the integrity of the general ledger is maintained
• Ensuring income is banked in a timely and accurate manner
• Maintaining the security of the cashier offices
• Providing assistance and advice to Trust employees, patients and visitors as required
• Accountable to the Head of Financial Operations for adherence to statutory accounting requirements, International Financial Reporting Standards, Department of Health and NHS Improvement accounting standards and Trust policies for internal control, corporate governance and reporting requirements.

• Receipt and bank income (via secure collection service) in a timely and accurate manner and ensure appropriate records are maintained in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures
• Responsible for the checking and coding of credit card, cash and cheque receipts and input into C&D which feeds into cash book journal template
• Collect and count cash receipts from laundry machines at Doughty House (Chelsea site), Maternity scanning and Urgent Care prescription machines receipts at WestMid, reconcile to machine readings and bank in a timely and accurate manner
• Provide a cashiering service to the Trust’s Pharmacy Dispensary, Private Patients’ wing and HIV Centre in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
• Reimburse patients for travel costs incurred in attending a hospital appointment ensuring eligibility in accordance with Department of Health guidelines, that appropriately authorised documentation has been received, that reimbursement is issued in a timely and accurate manner and that appropriate records are maintained in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
• Secure patients’ money and property from wards in accordance with the Trust’s Patient Property Policy and Procedure. Arrange withdrawal of patients’ cash and valuables at the cashier’s office window or other designated area ensuring that appropriately authorised documentation is received and that withdrawal is carried out in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. Update patients’ property record• Responsible key holder for the Trust’s safe located in cashier’s office. Responsible for maintaining records and reconciling funds and property held in the safe on a daily basis
• Maintain petty cash book detailing financial codes and balance the float at the end of each day preparing petty cash reimbursement as required
• Prepare and upload standard cash book journals subject to approval
• Responsible for handing out cheques for annual “bus only” season ticket loans to members of staff subject to Trust policy and procedure
• Responsible for handing out season tickets to members of staff subject to Trust policy and procedure
• Ensure that work is completed on a timely basis to ensure internal and external reporting deadlines are met
• Ensure policies and procedures are adhered to and proposed changes to procedures and/or working practices are discussed and agreed with colleagues and line management
• Organise the opening and closing of the cashiers’ offices with colleagues ensuring the provision of a cashiering service at both sites in accordance with agreed times
• Providing annual leave and sickness cover for colleagues as appropriate.

• Ensure an adequate supply of controlled stationery is available to meet the immediate requirements of the cashier’s office
• Responsible for contributing to the maintenance and development of all written procedures relating to the processes under the post holder’s control
• Ensure all duties are performed in accordance with the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
• Ensure adherence to internal, external and statutory accounting requirements and standards

• Supervision of work conducted by placement students and/or apprentices as required

• Keep up to date with national and local Finance Staff Development (FSD) strategy, initiatives and opportunities. Help create a culture of learning and staff development
• Responsible for assisting with training and induction of new team members as required

• Provide answers to first line queries
• Provide assistance and advice to Trust employees, patients and visitors as required pertaining to areas within post holder’s remit
• Ensure all communication, which may be complex, contentious or sensitive, is undertaken in a responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on improvement and ways to move forward.
