Are you passionate about nature, conservation, and community engagement? The Vale of Glamorgan Council invites you to be part of an exciting project at Porthkerry Country Park in Barry. As a Woodland Project Officer, you’ll play a vital role in enhancing this beautiful park for generations to come.

Position Details:

Role: Woodland Project Officer
Hours: Part-time (18.5 hours per week). Fixed Term Contract over 24 Months
Location: Porthkerry Country Park (hybrid position with some remote work)
Salary: Grade 6 (£27,334 - £29,776 pro rata)
Benefits: Local Government Pension Scheme, 25 days annual leave (pro rata)
This project is funded by the Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) scheme. It is being delivered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Welsh Government.
What You’ll Do:

Collaborate with local schools and volunteers to create captivating sculpture trails and interpretation panels.
Build and install bird and bat boxes, fostering biodiversity within the woodlands.
Host engaging public events celebrating nature and outdoor activities.
Improve access by installing footpaths.
Safeguard rare and vulnerable plant species by commissioning contractors to undertake habitat management works.
Network with other teams to deliver the Vale Nature Recovery Action Plan.
Work alongside the Local Nature Partnership, making a positive impact.
Develop a social media presence to raise awareness of the park and project progress.
Commission and contribute to a long-term management plan for Porthkerry Country Park.
Handle grant submissions, manage budgets, and evaluate project outcomes.
Manage the capital works programme to ensure effective delivery of the project.
