We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust Clinical Coding Training and Audit Team as a Clinical Coding Trainer.

This post is open to those who wish to start a career as a Clinical Coding Trainer as well as those who may already hold NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainer Status.

We will support the successful candidates to work towards achieving NHS England Approved Trainer Status.

The post holder will work with our Senior Clinical Coding Trainer to assist in running an efficient and high-quality clinical coding training service across MTW sites.

Ensuring that MTW Clinical Coders receive first class training and in turn support the business needs of the Trust, including Clinical Governance, Information Governance and finance by ensuring accurate translation of medical terminology using ICD & OPCS.

To assist the Coding Trainer in providing comprehensive and appropriate training for all staff within the coding department ensuring they are trained and supervised to achieve coding accreditation.

Supporting Trainee Clinical Coding Analysts in the learning process, mentoring and checking their work.

We will support the successful candidates to work towards achieving NHS England Approved Trainer Status.
• Working with the Coding Trainer to plan, coordinate and deliver a comprehensive clinical coding training schedule for new employees and continued training and development of existing staff ensuring they operate in accordance with national standards, and to assist in inducting new staff in all relevant processes and methods as carried out by the clinical coding department.
• In conjunction with the Coding Trainer, develop and deliver an ongoing awareness campaign by delivering presentations to small and large groups and attending meetings with clinicians and senior managers across the Trust to promote clinical coding and the importance of good data quality.
• To actively engage in personal development courses as agreed with the Coding Trainer and ensure that all mandatory training requirements are up to date.
• To actively promote information sharing and sharing of best practise between the two coding sites.
• To provide coaching for individual coders and assist the Coding Trainer during in house training and team meetings.
• To code on a daily basis when required.
• To check trainee coder’s work before it is put onto the system and advise and support where coding is incorrect providing training when required.
• To represent the Training & Audit team at clinical coding data quality meetings, presenting coding queries and feeding back at quarterly departmental data quality meetings to the coding teams.

Your starting salary will be £37,338 pa pro rata.

The government has accepted the recommendations of the NHS Pay Review Body, and agreed a 5.5% consolidated uplift, backdated to 1 April 2024.

Our workforce colleagues have received the detail of the pay award and have confirmed the increase to salaries and retrospective pay (backdated to 1 April 2024) will be paid in October salaries, in line with payroll lead times. Your salary will be will be backdated to the date you commenced in your new role.

If your start date is arranged prior to the 24th of October then you will be paid £35,392 pa pro rata and your salary will be updated automatically on the 24th of October.
