A Vacancy at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of the Obstetric Bleeding Study UK (OBS UK) research and improvement team. The post will commence in February 2025 and will end in April 2026, with the study due to finish in 2027. Interviews will be held on 16th August 2024.
The Obstetric Bleeding Study UK (OBS UK) is an NIHR-funded study investigating Post-Partum Haemorrhage (PPH). Starting in February 2024, the study will implement a PPH care bundle (based on the OBS Cymru care bundle) as a quality improvement programme in 36 UK-based maternity units. The study is sponsored by Cardiff University, with support from the Cardiff Trials Unit. Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust is the lead English NHS Trust.
The post holder will help to deliver the obstetric implementation of the project, liaising with maternity units across the UK to support and deliver sustainable changes in PPH care. Nationwide travel across 36 hospital sites will therefore be required. The post holder will be supported by the UK-wide multi-professional research team, including Mr William Parry-Smith (Consultant Obstetrician, Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust) and Dr Sarah Bell (Chief Investigator and Consultant Anaesthetist, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff).
Duties will include:
· To take part in the Tier 2 on call rota.
· Duties include antenatal clinics, gynaecology outpatient clinics and theatre activities as agreed with the department.
· To provide support to junior trainees and medical students and actively contribute to training and continuity of service.
· To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
· To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
· To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
· To work on agreed research projects within the department and meet agreed academic targets.
· To collaborate with academic partners to write up and submit research grant applications.
· To disseminate research findings by presenting at local, national and international conferences.
· To write up research findings and submit to peer reviewed journals.
· If undertaking an MD, meet the academic targets as set by the academic supervisors.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.
Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust’s catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. The main towns include: Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch (in Shropshire); Newport, Telford and Wellington (in Telford & Wrekin); and Newtown and Welshpool (in Powys) – all beautiful and unique.
Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which are located 20 minutes’ drive apart. Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.
We also provide services such as consultant-led outreach clinics at the Wrekin Community Clinic, Telford, the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen and the Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Whitchurch Community Hospitals.
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the tier 2 full-shift rota. The rota is compliant with the terms and conditions of the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and WTR and has been carefully designed to maximise training opportunities for doctors whilst maintaining a safe and efficient service, with an even spread of long days and nights. The post holders’ timetable will be individualised. There will be an overall balance of 50% research activity and 50% clinical activity.
