About the Approving Authority (Design)
HMNB Clyde Approving Authority (Design) undertake a vital role in ensuring key defence infrastructure that interfaces with nuclear powered warships and nuclear weapon systems are safe and fit for purpose.
The work of the Approving Authority (Design) is varied covering all design aspects such as:
Production and assessment of engineering designs to ensure compliance with appropriate technical and legislative requirements.
Substantiation of design requirements placed on Nuclear Infrastructure and production of safety justifications for design changes to nuclear safety implicated equipment.
Identify Examination Inspection Maintenance and Testing (EIMT) requirements to ensure infrastructure’s continued suitability to provide operational and safety functions.
Assess the impact of defective equipment on safety and reliability. Amend Operating Conditions & Limits where required to ensure safety systems availability to support operations.
Deliver Periodic Review of Safety program, assessing the material state of infrastructure and ageing mechanisms to permit the continued operation of facilities and utilities.
Represent HMNB Clyde by acting as an Intelligent customer on projects delivered under contract by others.
