Description
The Later Living Officer (Sheltered Housing Officer) (SO1) is responsible for providing support and assistance to residents in sheltered housing facilities. This role involves working with older adults to ensure their wellbeing and promoting a sense of community within the housing schemes. The Later Living Officer will be the main point of contact for residents, their families, and external agencies, ensuring that all their needs are met and that their quality of life is enhanced.
This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a compassionate and caring attitude towards older adults. The Later Living Officer must have a strong understanding of the aging process and be able to identify and address any issues or concerns that may arise. They will also be responsible for promoting the independence and autonomy of residents, while providing any necessary support or care that may be required.
Responsibilities
Provide support and advice to residents and their families regarding housing options, including sheltered accommodation and assisted living facilities.
Assist residents with applying for benefits and accessing community resources such as healthcare services, social activities, and transportation.
Carry out regular welfare checks and assessments to ensure the wellbeing of residents, offering assistance with day-to-day tasks and personal care as required.
Organize and facilitate social events and activities within the housing schemes to promote a sense of community and companionship among residents.
Liaise with external agencies such as healthcare professionals, local authorities, and support services to ensure that residents receive appropriate care and assistance.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of resident information, including assessments, support plans, and any incidents or concerns that arise.
Collaborate with colleagues and management to develop and implement policies and procedures that enhance the living experience and safety of residents.
Requirements
A minimum of [X] years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within a sheltered housing or supported living environment.
Knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges faced by older adults, particularly those living in sheltered accommodation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents, their families, and external agencies.
Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards older adults, with the ability to provide emotional support and assistance when needed.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations relating to sheltered housing and the support of older adults.
Proficiency in using computer software and systems for record keeping and reporting purposes.
