Since early 2018 we have been building a positive and creative team that enjoys a position of influence and respect within an organisation that continues to grow, most recently with the addition of construction products regulation planned.
Our primary purpose is to protect people and places from product-related harm, ensuring consumers and businesses can buy and sell products with confidence

Construction Products Senior Assistant Economist
All around us are construction products, in our houses, our places of work and the infrastructure in-between. But when a construction product is faulty, the risk of fire, collapse or other tragedies increases.
Joining the team, you’ll have a great opportunity to analyse the impacts of intervention, the economics of the market and secure data to decrease the risk.
Consumer Products Senior Assistant Economist
From household electricals to our children's toys, cosmetic products, furniture and fireworks; consumer products surround us- these everyday items households can freely purchase and use. OPSS is passionate and responsible for ensuring these products, and many more, are safe and meet appropriate product safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership of projects analysing the evidence base for Construction or Consumer products.
- Independently scoping and delivering tailored analysis and recommendations on the microeconomic principles of product safety.
- Maintaining strong relationships with colleagues internally and across Government, with clear communication to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Potential opportunity for line management of junior analysts.
- Supporting the wider OPSS Economics (and sometimes, OPSS Analysis) team with ad-hoc requests and work.
