The Junior Clinical Fellow will be part of and contribute to an existing motivated, driven and enthusiastic team of ED Medical Practitioners providing excellent clinical care to patients. The ED team are valued highly by the Trust. The Trust is acutely aware of the intensity and demands within the Emergency Department and provides support to its staff on all levels.

• The assessment and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department in all clinical areas according to department need under the direction of the Consultant in Charge.
• Support of nursing staff and junior colleagues.
• Abide by Trust standing regulations and clinical guidance.
• The post holder is responsible for all contractual obligations towards his/her employer and any statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Report any risk arising to patients, staff or other service users.
• Establish an agreed personal development plan with his/her allocated Consultant Mentor.
• Engage in required audits and quality improvement projects as directed.
• Attend and/or participate in departmental teaching programme.

A purpose built ED opened in December 2001 and includes a seven-bedded resuscitation area; a specially designed and designated paediatric area; a Majors area (23 cubicles for patients whose care requires being supine on a trolley, plus a designated psychiatric assessment room) and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre for the assessment and management of primarily minor illness. We have a designated area for the offloading and rapid assessment of patients arriving by ambulance comprising four bays and a seated area with four chairs. Non-clinical facilities include excellent teaching accommodation, simulation room within the department, patient waiting areas, staff rest and locker areas with ample major/chemical incident storage facilities. The department has a digital PACS radiology system and the Trust uses a customised R1 CRS data system that was upgraded in March 2014.
