Job Title: Research Scientist - Global Biopharmaceutical

Contract: 12-month contract

Location: Slough

Salary: £20.03 (PAYE), £27.27 (Umbrella)

SRG are working with a Global Biopharmaceutical company to help them find a Research Scientist to join their busy team.

The Antibody Discovery and Optimization within UCB Early Solutions is responsible for the discovery and engineering of antibodies using cutting edge in vitro display library and single immune B cell technologies. The groups collaborate widely with scientists specializing in specific therapeutic areas, large and small molecule drug discovery, protein engineering, structural biology, computational design, and data scientists in informatics.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and execution of in vitro display library selections and screening experiments.
  • Generation of high-quality bespoke display libraries to support bovine antibody engineering projects.
  • Perform a range of binding assays to assess specificity and affinity of engineered antibodies.
  • Use your excellent communication and team working abilities to drive the innovative antibody project forward from the laboratory.
  • Present experimental data at cross-functional meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies/techniques in antibody discovery and engineering.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A postgraduate (ideally PhD-level) scientist with a good understanding of immunology and antibody structure and function.
  • Experience in antibody research would be desirable.
  • A solid understanding and proven experience of molecular biology and techniques including phage and yeast display, and flow cytometry would be beneficial.
  • Experience of biochemical techniques used for molecular characterization such as ELISA, FACS, SPR or BLI and antibody expression / purification is an advantage.
  • Experience of NGS approaches to antibody discovery would be advantageous.
  • Skills in the use of computational platforms in molecular biology and protein structure viewing would be a significant advantage.
  • A high level of motivation with a proven ability to deliver to tight timelines and work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and inter-personal skills.
  • A passion for delivering innovative new medicines to patients.
